The Continued Professional Certification Assessment (CPCA) is available year-round, either in-person or online, and must be taken by all CRNAs during their second four-year cycle.
The first step in the process is to complete the CPCA application via the NBCRNA portal, and then schedule the CPCA at the date and time that is most convenient for you. Please note - the CPCA can be completed anytime during your second 4-year cycle but must be completed no later than six months before your credential renewal deadline.
You will not be able to complete your next credential renewal if you haven’t completed the CPCA, so don’t delay! Pearson Vue and OnVUE appointments are filling up fast for 2023. For those recertifying in the next two years, you are encouraged to schedule your exam as early in 2023 as possible.

New NBCRNA Executive Board Leadership
NBCRNA is pleased to announce its new Executive Committee on the Board of Directors for fiscal year 2023: President Lori Anderson, DNP, MSN, CRNA, FAANA, Vice President Susan McMullan, PhD, MSN, CRNA, CNE, CHSE, FAANA, FAAN and Secretary-Treasurer Garry Brydges, PHD, DNP, MBA, CRNA, ACNP-BC, FAAN, FAANA. Their terms began on October 8, 2022, following the conclusion of the October Board of Directors meeting.
Additionally, outgoing Board members Kevin Driscoll, DNP, MSN, CRNA, Cormac O’Sullivan, PhD, MSN, CRNA, FAANA, Terry Wicks, DNP, MHS, CRNA, and Emerging Leader Fellow Sara Myers DNP, CRNA were recognized and congratulated at the conclusion of the October Board of Directors meeting for their years of service to NBCRNA.
The NBCRNA Board of Directors are volunteers that spend an estimated 300 hours per year on this important commitment, leading the strategic direction of the organization. The members of the Board of Directors who are recognized as leaders in nurse anesthesia and related fields. Board members represent the profession as well as the public at large. Members of the Board are elected to serve staggered three-year terms. Two of the CRNA Board Directors are elected by currently certified CRNAs through an open election by the CRNA community.
NBCRNA Chief Credentialing Officer Earns Top Healthcare Management Credential
Christopher Gill, PhD, MBA, CRNA, FACHE, National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) Chief Credentialing Officer, recently became a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders.
"Dr. Gill’s commitment to the nurse anesthesia profession, patient safety and lifelong learning are to be congratulated as he reaches this milestone in his career," said NBCRNA CEO John Preston DNSc, CRNA, FAANA, FNAP, APRN. "This FACHE credential further solidifies Dr. Gill as a top healthcare leader in advanced practice registered nursing."
FACHE status represents achievement of the highest standard of professional development- only 8,866 healthcare executives hold this distinction. To obtain Fellow status, candidates must fulfill multiple requirements, including meeting academic and experiential criteria, earning continuing education hours, demonstrating professional community involvement and passing a comprehensive examination. Fellows also are committed to ongoing professional development and undergo recertification every three years.

Tim Muckle, PhD, NBCRNA Chief Assessment Officer and Hao Song, PhD, NBCRNA Director of Psychometrics recently earned the designation of ICE-CCP from the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (I.C.E.). This credential signifies those who are a Certified Credentialing Professional. This credential is culmination of professional accomplishment, completion of a significant curriculum of credentialing-related educational content and successful completion of a certification examination.
Matt Ferris, NBCRNA Senior Director of Testing was accepted in to the I.C.E. Leadership Academy. This year long invitational program selects 12-15 future leaders in the credentialing community to discuss leadership concepts, expand their network and supports their preparation for leadership in the credentialing community. This program is aimed at growing future leaders for I.C.E. and the programs they represent.
