Year-Round CPCA Scheduling Now Available

In early August, NBCRNA announced the Continued Professional Certification Assessment (CPCA) is now available year-round, either in-person at a Pearson VUE center or online through Pearson OnVUE. The CPCA application and scheduling process remains unchanged - CRNAs can apply for the CPCA via the NBCRNA portal, and then schedule the CPCA at the date and time that is most convenient for them.

Expedited CPCA Results

Based on feedback from the CRNA community, NBCRNA has taken the necessary steps to provide CPCA results, both preliminary and official, much earlier than the previous 90-day waiting period.

CRNAs will be provided a preliminary performance report immediately upon completing the CPCA. An official score report will be provided within 1-2 business days, after the assessment has been verified and finalized by the NBCRNA.

As a reminder, the CPCA is not a pass/fail exam. CRNAs who do not meet a set standard score in any of the four core domains will be required to take at least one additional Class A credit focused on each identified areas of weakness. The additional credit(s) would be over the minimum 60 Class A credits and 100 total credits requirement and must be taken through an accredited Class A CE provider.

NBCRNA at the 2022 AANA Annual Congress

NBCRNA was well represented in featured events and in the exhibit hall during the 2022 AANA Annual Congress, the largest CRNA educational event in the country, August 12-16 in Chicago, Illinois.

At NBCRNA’s booth in the exhibit hall, representatives of NBCRNA provided guidance and answered questions to both students and CRNA’s about the CPC program, the CPCA, the NCE, and the SEE.

Friday, August 12, NBCRNA Board President and Associate Professor and Director, Anesthesia Nursing Program at the University of Iowa Cormac O’Sullivan PhD, CRNA, ARNP, provided an overview of NBCRNA’s recent activities and initiatives of interest, including CPC program updates, CPCA updates, CRNA communications, and progress of the longitudinal assessment (LA) research study.

Monday, August 15, NBCRNA hosted a nurse anesthesia student luncheon with hundreds of students in attendance. NBCRNA also recognized its volunteers, present at the Congress, with a reception in their honor.

Tuesday, August 16, NBCRNA Chief Executive Officer John C. Preston, DNSc, CRNA, FAANA, FNAP, APRN and NBCRNA Chief Credentialing Officer Christopher Gill, PhD, MBA, CRNA, gave a presentation about longitudinal assessment (LA), benefits of LA, and how LA may serve as a vehicle to measure CRNA knowledge.

NBCRNA will be at the next AANA Annual Congress in Seattle, Washington, August 18-23, 2023.
